Fifteen Cleethorpes & District Swimming Club (CADS) elite youth swimmers contested in the Sheffield City Long Course Meet at Pond Forge over the weekend of the 25th & 26th May. Open to competitive swimmers aged 10 – 17 throughout the northern region, the club’s youth swimmers surpassed their current rankings proudly representing not only the club, but the region.
The boy’s contingent of four junior and potential swimmers, certainly carried home the silverware over the course of the weekend. Andrew Hunter (aged 10) amazed the crowd with 6 medals across all disciplines including silver medals in 50m, 100m and 200m freestyle, and 50m, 100m Backstroke. Finlay Buxton (aged 13) swam personal best times throughout and topped his weekend off with a Silver in 50m Backstroke, and Bronze in 100m Breaststroke and 200m Freestyle. Matthew Bradley (aged 12) secured personal best times across the event and flew to a Gold in the 200m Freestyle and Silver in the 50m Butterfly. In Addition, Archie Beverly, (aged 11) took on the long course event and secured top 10 rankings and personal best times.
The girls however did not allow the boys to take all the glory, and with 11 competing at the event overall the ‘CADS ladies’ were spearheaded by Ellie Buxton (aged 17). National Qualifier and CADS Girls Team Captain Ellie proved her ‘role model’ prowess by winning 4 Gold medals in the 50m Free, 100m Breast, 100m Butterfly and 200m IM, with a Silver in the 200m Freestyle. However, ensuring they kept up with their peers high swimming standards, Eve Cooper (aged 10), Isabel Priestley (aged 14) and Elizabeth Wells (aged 16) all swan personal best times and collected silverware for their efforts. Eve gained a hat-trick of Gold medals winning her age category in, 200m IM, 100m and 200m Breaststroke. Isabel ranked top 10 throughout and gained a silver in the 200m Fly, whilst Elizabeth secured 2 bronze medals in 100m and 200m Backstroke.
